Summary

Noise44 is a local-first Android app for voice check-ins on focused days. You define missions, speak short check-ins through the day, set a time budget, and optionally generate an end-of-day reflection. Missions, transcripts, budgets, reminder settings, and day reports are stored on your device. Speech is converted to text using your phone’s speech recognition (on-device when available). Optional end-of-day analysis and mission label suggestions may call Google Gemini directly from the app when an API key is configured. Import/Export creates JSON backups through your device’s share sheet; the app does not upload them to us. We do not operate cloud servers for your journal data in this version. No account is required. The current app release does not include third-party analytics or crash reporting. Website waitlist emails are covered by the separate website privacy policy.

1. Who we are

2. Data we store on your device

The app persists data on-device (AsyncStorage via Zustand). Depending on how you use Noise44, this may include:

Missions (text, short labels, order, timestamps)
Planned time budget across missions (say)
Voice check-in logs: date, time, transcript text, optional mission tag, duration, rhythm interval metadata
Daily reflection reports: summary narrative, say-vs-done allocation, highlights, lowlights, alignment score, language, generation time
Day session state (when you start/stop a recording day)
Reminder settings (window, interval, Alarm vs Notification, alarm sound preference, vibrate)
Theme (light/dark) and in-app info-hint flags
First-open date used for onboarding UX

This data stays on your phone unless you export a backup, share a file yourself, uninstall the app, or clear app storage in Android settings. We do not sync your journal to a k-level cloud backend in this release.

3. Microphone and speech recognition

When you record a check-in, Noise44 requests microphone access and uses speech recognition to turn your speech into text. On supported devices the app prefers on-device recognition. On Android, the operating system may download offline speech models or, if on-device recognition is unavailable, fall back to the platform’s speech services (which may use network processing under Google’s or the device vendor’s terms).

In the current Record flow, Noise44 stores the resulting transcript text (and related metadata). It does not upload raw audio files to k-level servers. You can edit or delete check-in text in the app.

Without microphone permission you cannot use voice check-ins; other local features (missions, archive of existing text, settings) may still work.

4. Optional AI analysis (Google Gemini)

If a Gemini API key is configured in the app build or environment, Noise44 may call Google’s Generative Language API directly from the device for:

End-of-day reflection (Reflect / Refresh): that day’s check-in times and transcripts, mission texts/labels, planned budget percentages, and language instructions, so Gemini can produce a summary, say-vs-done allocation, highlights, lowlights, and an alignment score
Mission short-label suggestions: the mission text only

These requests go to Google (generativelanguage.googleapis.com) over HTTPS. Google processes the content under its own terms and privacy policy. We do not sell your journal content or use it for advertising.

If Gemini is not configured or the request fails, your transcripts remain on-device. You can still review Archive data without generating a reflection.

Safety note: anything you speak into a check-in may later be included in a reflection request to Google if you run Reflect. Do not record information you are not willing to send to Google for that purpose.

No k-level account login is required. We do not operate a push notification server for Noise44.

6. Reminders, notifications, and alarms

If you enable reminders and grant notification (and, where required, alarm) permissions, Noise44 schedules local alerts on your device while a day session is active:

Notification mode: local notifications via the OS scheduler
Alarm mode: stronger local alarms via the device alarm APIs (ringtone / vibrate according to your settings)

Alert content is generated on-device (for example check-in prompts tied to time slots). Alerts are not sent through a k-level push service. You can change interval, window, delivery mode, sound, and vibrate in the app, or disable notifications in Android settings.

7. Import and export

Settings → Import / Export lets you save or restore a JSON backup (missions, planned allocation, voice logs, daily reports, and related metadata) through your device’s share sheet or document picker. The app does not upload backups to k-level servers. Anyone you share a backup file with can read its contents—treat exports as sensitive.

8. Analytics and crash reporting

The current Noise44 app release does not include third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs (for example no PostHog or Sentry in the app).

9. Accounts

Noise44 does not require creating an account with k-level. There is no in-app email/password or social login in this version.

10. Children

Noise44 is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided data through the app, contact privacy@k-level.xyz so we can help you delete on-device data instructions.

11. Website waitlist (not stored in the app)

If you join the Noise44 waitlist on k-level.xyz, your email is processed by our website stack (Resend) under the website privacy policy. That email is not written into the Noise44 app database.

12. Legal bases (EEA/UK users)

Where the GDPR applies, we rely on:

Art. 6(1)(b) — providing the app features you request (local journal, reminders, optional AI you trigger)
Art. 6(1)(a) — consent where required (for example microphone permission; website waitlist consent; analytics cookies on the website only)
Art. 6(1)(f) — legitimate interests in securing and improving a functional product, balanced against your rights

Google may process AI prompts outside the EEA. Where applicable, such transfers rely on Google’s contractual safeguards with its API customers.

13. Retention

On-device data remains until you delete check-ins, clear storage, uninstall, or overwrite via import. AI providers retain prompts according to their own policies. Waitlist emails are retained until you ask us to remove them or we close the waitlist.

14. Your rights and choices

Deny or revoke microphone, notification, or exact-alarm permissions in Android settings
Skip Reflect so transcripts never leave the device for AI analysis
Edit or delete individual check-ins; clear reports by regenerating or clearing app data
Export or import backups; share exports only with people you trust
Uninstall the app or clear storage to delete local data
For waitlist emails or other privacy requests: privacy@k-level.xyz
EEA/UK users may also lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority

15. Security

We design Noise44 to keep journal data local by default. Device security (screen lock, OS updates, who can unlock your phone) is the primary protection for on-device data. No method of electronic storage is perfectly secure.

16. Changes

We may update this policy when the product or legal requirements change. The “Last updated” date will change accordingly. Material changes for store users may also be reflected in release notes or in-app notices.
